WEDDING

BURT—BLATCHFORD. BRIDE CHOOSES PINK. A wedding of widespread Wairarapa interest took place at St Matthew’s Church, Masterton, on Saturday evening, when Rona Margaret, only daughter of Mr and Mrs Norman Blatchford, Training Farm, Masterton, was married to Alan George, second son of the late Mr and Mrs G. L. Burt, of Featherston. The Rev. E. J. Rich performed the marriage ceremony and Mr Miller Hope presided at the organ. Very fitting for the occasion was a choir of Solway College girls, the bride having been a past pupil. During the signing of the register, the choir, sang “Oh Perfect Love,.” Entering the church with her father the bride looked very pretty, wearing a frock of shell pink georgette over pale pink embossed satin cut on full lines. The skirt fell into a long train edged all round with pink lace. The softly draped bodice and V neck filled in with lace and long full sleeves gaged from shoulder to wrist was also finished with a soft frill of lace falling on to the hand. Her beautiful embroidered veil of pink tulle was arranged in a halo style and was worn over the face, falling to the ground and forming a second train. At the sides of the halo were sprays of tiny pink orange blossom. A beautiful bouquet of soft pinK Suculia carnations intermingled with maiden-hair fern and tulle completed a very dainty bridal outfit.

The bride was attended by five maids—Misses Heather Gregor (chief), Marie Blatchford, Joyce Wyeth (cousins of the bride) and Patricia Thomas. They were all dressed alike in applegreen georgette over taffeta, made on similar lines to that of the bride, with pink taffeta ruffles around the neck. Short gaged sleeves and pink velvet shoes. On their heads they wore tiny skull caps of green georgette, encircled with a wreath of tiny pink roses. Their bouquets were of pink cyclamen and gladioli and maiden-hair fern.

The bridegroom was attended by Mr Geof. Blatchford (brother of the bride) as best man and Mr Ken Burt (brother of the groom) as groomsmen. The ushers were Messrs A. Tankersley, C. Wyeth and I. Blain. On leaving the church the bride was presented with lucky horse shoes by Margaret Blatchford and Rex Tonkin.

After the ceremony Mr and Mrs Blatchford entertained a large number of relatives and friends in the Parish Hall. Mrs Blatchford received her guests wearing a violet velvet frock with split bishop sleeves lined with pink satin. With this she wore a stitched violet hat and fox fur and carried a posy of pink gladioli and carnelias. She was assisted by the bridegroom’s sister, Mrs Gain, who wore a model frock of blue satin backed crepe, full sleeved, relieved with fawn and a hat to match. Her posy was of red carnations and autumn leaves. When Mr and Mrs Alan Burt left later in the evening by car for the North on their honeymoon the bride was smartly attired in a honey gold satin-backed crepe frock, braided in tan. Worn over this was a London tan tailored coat, tan ribbon halo hat and fitch fur and brown accessories. On their return Mr and Mrs Burt will take up their residence in South Featherston.
