CENTENARY CAMPAIGN'
MEETING IN MASTERTON. FINAL ARRANGEMENTS MADE. Final arrangements for the public meeting to launch the Centenary Campaign were made at a representative meeting of the Citizens’ Committe last night. Mr T. Jordan presided over a good attendance. The meeting, open to all, will be held in the Opera House on Monday next at 8 p.m. The speakers will be Messrs T. Jordan, C. M. Bowden of Wellington, and the Rt Rev H. St Barbe Holland, Bishop of Wellington. On the motion of Mr S. R. Gawith it was unanimously decided to make no charge for admission and to take up no collection. Members of the Citizens’ Committee generously offered to be responsible personally for all expenses. It was reported that splendid support was being given the new Cathedral project, and considerable interest was being shown by all sections of the community.
The chairman was congratulated on. his action in gaining support from the Provincial Council for' his proposal for making the Cathedral the provincial memorial, and also on the excellent letter he had drawn up containing the Citizens’ Committee’s appeal. Notification of the following local promises was received: —Two of £5OO, one of £2OO, one of £5O, and one of £25. Other members of the Committee said that they would notify the honorary secretary, Mr H. M. Boddington, of the amounts they were going to give before Monday so that the local campaign can be assured of a goodstart.
