FROZEN MEAT TRADE
LONDON QUOTATIONS. LAMB MARKET FIRM. Lamb market: Tendency of market is firm with improved prices for best grades. Second quality, tendency easier. Mutton market: Wethers, lightweights weaker; ewes, easier owing to heavier arrivals and slow trade. Beef market: Chilled beef firm this week. New Zealand porker pigs: Lightweights easier, owing to hot weather; trade slow. New Zealand baconer pigs: Market firmer owing to better bacon prices. The above report was received yesterday by the Meat Board from its London office, which advises that the following are the ruling prices of wholesale quantities of the descriptions of frozen meat mentioned and are for representative' parcels of the goods sold on Thursday. Chilled beef prices are averages of the week. All prices are on the basis of delivered to Smithfield market. Prices for the previous week are shown in parentheses: — New Zealand Sheep.—Crossbred wethers and —or maiden ewes: 481 b and under, 5Jd (5Jd); 491 b to 561 b, 5Jd (s{d); 571 b to 641 b, 5d (sd); 651 b to 72 lb, 4J (4jd). Ewes, 481 b and under, 33d (3 7-8 d); 491 b to 561 b, 3 3-8 d (31d); 571 b to 641 b, 3 l-8d (3Jd); 651 b to 721 b, 3d (3 l-8d). Compared with last week’s quotations, down lambs Jd per lb higher, 2nd quality lamb Jd per lb lower, wethers u/481bs ,Jd per lb lower, 48/561bs Id lower, ewes Id lower, other unchanged. The lamb market is steady; The demand for New Zealand mutton is poor; the market being slightly easier.
