Miss A. M. Brown, of Essex Street, Masterton, is on a visit to Dunedin. Mr and Mrs Vin Taylor, of Kawakawa, Bay of Islands, are visiting Masterton.
Misses J. and R. Golder, of Hukanui, have been visitors to Napier and Wellington. Mrs E. Hunter, of Hukanui, is bn a holiday which will be spent at New Plymouth and Auckland. Mrs F. C. Middleton, of St Mark’s Road, Remuera. Auckland, is the guest of Mrs W. H. Saunders, Essex Street, Masterton.
Mrs M.’M. Dunderdale, of Masterton, has been elected a life member of the Wairarapa branch of the N.Z. Crippled Children’s Society. Mr and Mrs David Taylor, of .Kawakawa, Bay of Islands, are the guests of Mr and Mrs J. H. Berney, Pownall Street, Masterton. Mrs E. Dew, of Dixon Street, Masterton, celebrated her 90th birthday yesterday. She received a number of messages of congratulation as well as birthday gifts. A farewell afternoon was recently held at the residence of Mrs Eddie, Hukanui, in honour of Mrs A. Mooney, who is to take up her residence at Blenheim, when she was presented with a ' frarrieless mirror.
St Mark’s Anglican Church, Mangatainoka, was the scene of a pretty wedding on June 22, when Dorothy May, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs B. Roberts, of Mangatainoka, was married to Owen Tracey Priest, youngest son of .Mr and Mrs Priest, of Okains Bay, Banks Peninsula. Members of the Hukanui Women’s Institute tendered a social to Mrs Mooney who has been a valued member. Mrs Sutherland, on behalf of members, presented Mrs Mooney with a brass fruit dish, as an appreciation of past services and companionship. On behalf of the Methodist Guild, Mrs Harrington asked Mrs Mooney to accept a cake plate as an appreciation and in remembrance,of old times. Mrs Money expressed thanks for both gifts. Miss Aila Beetham, Masterton, whose marriage will take place at. the end of this month, was the guest of honour recently at a flag bridge party given by Miss Helen Gill at her home in Cole Street,. Masterton. , There were 20 guests present. On a recent afternoon another party was held for this popular bride-to-be, when Miss Patricia Jordan, daughter of Mr and Mrs T. Jordan, entertained a large number of friends at her home, Lansdowne. St Paul’s Presbyterian Schoolroom, Pahiatua, was packed to the doors on Saturday afternoon for the presentation to Miss G. Berry, matron of the Pahiatua Public Hospital, who is to be married' shortly to Mr F. H. S. Bolton. The Mayor, Mr S. K. Siddells,. presided. Dr Paterson expressed the appreciation of all those who had come in contact with the matron, who has been a very popular figure in Pahiatua for many years, during which time hundreds of local residents had received kindness and attentive treatment. The presentation took the form of a dressing case and two handbags and a substantial qheque. Mr Bolton, on behalf of Miss Berry; thanked all those present.
ENGAGEMENT. The engagement is announced of Bessie Catherine (Betty), elder daughter of Mr and Mrs R. W. Turton, “Arapaepae,” Levin, to Peter Sinclair, only son of Mr. and Mrs P. S. Macdonald, “Yeronga,” Pirinoa, Featherston.
