TE WHARAU

RABBIT INSPECTION. (“Times-Age” Special.) Mr L. Whiteman, the Stock Department’s rabbit inspector, has been visiting the district lately, and is expected to make another inspection this week, principally to the places of those settlers who do not realise the seriousness of the rabbit menace. GOLF NOTES. On Saturday the ladies v. men match was played on a handicap. In previous years the ladies have always proved too superior for their opponents but this year the men had their revenge, winning by 8 games to 2, one game being halved. ( Mrs McKinstry and Miss Taylor played a Kummerstein Cup match finishing up all square, Mrs McKinstry will defend a challenge from Miss Vennell next Saturday. Mr P. Kummer withstood a challenge from Mr H. Winter, and will meet A. McGregor in a Nimmo Cup challenge next playing day, when the final round of the trophy competition will be played. Next weekend a team from the Carterton Club will try conclusions with their country brothers. This is the first occasion a team from that centre has paid a visit to these links and given fine weather a good day’s golf is expected. Mr W. Kummer has generously donated a trophy each to the ladies and men for a net aggregate over four days play. The first playing day for the trophies will be July 30.
