SYDNEY WATERFRONT
VISITED BY STATE PREMIER TROUBLE OVER “PICK-UP” PLACES SYDNEY, July 18. The Prime Minister, Mr B. S. B. Stevens, today established a precedent by visiting the waterfront, where he inspected the pick-up places for wharf labourers which, according to the men’s union, are not satisfactory -and have caused irritation. The Prime Minister conversed with various gangs, who gave him a cordial welcome. He listened to their grievances, his only comment afterwards being: "There is no doubt that a more satisfactory system of picking-up is necessary, but it is not easy to solve the existing difficulties.”
