Prayers’ were offered in all Anglican, Catholic and. non-conformist churches throughout. England today, for a cessation of. the’persecution of Jews in Aus- . tria and Germany. A special prayer, • composed by the Chief Rabbi, Dr Hertz, was also recited in every Synagogue. ’ STATEMENT BY POPE EXAGGERATED NATIONALISM DENOUNCED CASTEL GANDOLFO, July 17. The Pope, in a speech today, denounced exaggerated nationalism, ‘ which he declared was contrary to divine law and had now reached actual apostasy. Well-informed persons interpret the speech as being a condemnation of Italian action against Jews, which was recently forecast.
