CARD TOURNAMENT. (“Times-Age” Special.) On Thursday night the second round of the Friendly Societies and Fire Brigade card tournament was brought to a conclusion, when the Odd Fellows defeated the Fire Brigade by 30 games to 15, and the Foresters won from the Druids by 28 games to 14. The position of the teams is now as follows: —Foresters, 8 points; Fire Brigade, 7; Druids, 5; and Odd Fellows, 4. SEVERE WEATHER.

The weather has beeii very bold during the past week, being the most severe felt here this winter. Stock are feeling the conditions and it is feared that the visitation of “an old man” southerly will cause considerable mortality among weaker animals. THE DAIRYING SEASON. Dairy farmers are looking forward to a good season in the 1938-39 period, as in many herds a better class of animal is being introduced, with much im-proved-returns in consequence.
