EKETAHUNA

BOROUGH COLfNCIL MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Eke- i tahuna Borough Council a letter was received from the Distributing Authority of No. 10 Traffic District notifying that the Eketahuna Borough’s allocation of fees for the year ended 31st March last was £199 12s lOd. /The Mayor (Mr W. Simpson) stated that he had attended a conference in Wellington of local bodies in the Wellington district at which ways and means of financing the cost of the Wellington Provincial Court at the Centennial Exhibition were discussed. As the outcome of this conference a levy would be placed on every local body in the Province. It was estimated that Eketahuna’s share would be £2B. On the motion of the Mayor, seconded by Councillor Olsen it was decided to contribute £2B to the proposed fund. The National Committee for the Relief of Spanish children wrote asking for assistance. The Clerk was instructed to open a subscription list at the Council Chambers and also to approach businessmen in the same direction. The Health Inspector reported that for the quarter ended June 30 no case of infectious disease occurred in the borough. The following letter was received from the Hon. W. Nash: —In reply to your letter I have to. advise that the erection of State Houses in Eketahuna would have been well under way by now had it been possible to obtain satisfactory tenders. When tenders were called only one was received, and since then it has not been possible to obtain a satisfactory price by negotiations. It has therefore been decided to re-ad-vertise the contracts and it is suggested that your Council might help by getting local builders to tender.” The Mayor said that he thought that one local builder would tender for the contracts.
