MARTINBOROUGH

LATE MR W. W. BIRD. (“Times-Age” Special). Settlers from all parts of the district attended the funeral in Martinborough yesterday of the late Mr W. W. Bird, a well known resident of the Wairarapa. The Rev John Mann conducted services at the residence and at the graveside. Many beautiful wreaths were sent by sympathisers. The pall-bearers were Messrs K., A., and D. Sutherland, D. McLeod, A. Brentnail and G. Wilson. Mrs Bird, who has been a patient in a private hospital at Martinborough, is now staying with her daughter, Mrs A. Brentnail. The members of the family are: Messrs William Henry (Mauriceville), Frederick (Pirinoa), Charles (Wellington), Edward (Hinakura) and John (Waikato), and Mrs L. Gaskin (Masterton), and Mrs A. Brentnall (Martinborough). There are 15 grandchildren. PERSONAL ITEMS. A wedding of Martinborough interest took place at St Peter’s Church, Wellington, on Monday, when Miss Noeline Holmes was married to Mr Edward Hatton of Wellington. Miss C. Hamilton has left for Masterton and has taken up a position there. ANGLICAN CHURCH DANCE. A very enjoyable time was spent by a considerable number of young people at a dance in the Parish Hall last evening organised by the Anglican Church committee. Te Tau’s orchestra supplied popular music. The bridge prize was won by Mr A. Morrison.
