Mrs F. Cosford, Pahiatua, who was the guest of Mrs F. Hathaway, Petone, for race week, has returned home.

Mr M. J. Casey was re-elected president of the Wellington Bowling Centre at the annual meeting of delegates last night.

Mr Hugh Morrison, of Masterton, will be the guest of honour at a Farmers’ Union function at Pahiatua on July 22. Dr and Mrs W. J. C. Wells have returned to the Wairarapa, after a visit to Wellington, where they attended the Plunket Ball. They were the guests of Mr and Mrs Lochlan Campbell.

The Grey Hospital Board last night accepted the resignation, to take effect on October 5, of Dr H. C. Barrett, surgeon-medical superintendent for the past three years, who is to take up the position of surgeon to the Taranaki Hospital Board, New Plymouth.

The Rev Alan Brash, son of Mr T. C. Brash, Wellington, and formerly of Wanganui, has received a call from St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Wanganui. Mr Brash will leave Edinburgh, where he has recently completed his studies for the ministry, in September. Mr G. Walker, Labour member for Salisbury in the Rhodesian Parliament and organiser of the Rhodesian Labour Party, who is at present in Australia, intends to come to New Zealand to examine the results of recent labour legislation in this country. Mr Walker has relatives in New Zealand.

Mr Loftus Rea, manager of the electric totalisator at Addington, died yesterday after a short illness, says a Press Association message from Christchurch. Mr Rea, who was born in Dunedin, joined the staff of the Bank of New Zealand there and later was transferred to the New Plymouth branch. About 20 years ago he joined the “Taranaki Herald” and later became interested in the working of totalisators. In September he was appointed manager of the electric totalisator at Addington for the New Zealand Metropolitan and Canterbury Park Trotting Clubs.
