GREYTOWN
VOLUNTEER FIRE BRIGADE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Greytown Volunteer Fire Brigade was held on Monday night. Superintendent W. Gates presided over a good attendance of members. Advice was received from the United Fire Brigade Association that the ballot resulted in Wanganui "being chosen for the Conference in 1939. Master Trevor Gray was elected a messenger. The Superintendent presented Firemen E. Boyd and W. Gray with their two-year Service Bar. Both these firemen have now served the Greytown Brigade for over 23 years. Fireman R. Murray received a twoyear Bar making 15 years’ service. It was decided that the members of the brigade inspect the fire plugs at the next wet practice. A SPLENDID RECORD. When Superintendent Gates presented Fireman E. Boyd with his service honours at the Fire Brigade meeting on Monday night, he observed that in 18 months time Fireman E. Boyd would qualify for the Association’s 25 years’ Service Gold Star. He also stated that he felt sure that Fireman Boyd would be the first Maori to receive this honour. PERSONAL. Miss Joline Barnard, daughter of Mr and Mrs J. W. Barnard, of the Bank of New Zealand, Greytown, left today to join the nursing staff of the Wellington Hospital.
