TWO TO BE BUILT FOR CANADA AN IMPROVED SERVICE WITHIN TWO YEARS COMPETITION WITH MATSON SHIPS (Recd This Day, 1.25 p.m.) OTTAWA. July 11. At a cost of twenty million dollars, two new, larger and faster ships will be entering the Canadian-Australian and New Zealand service within two years. They will be owned and operated by the Canadian Pacific Steamship Company. The vessels will have a speed of 22 knots, enabling competition with the Matson ships from San Francisco, with fortnightly sailing from Vancouver. Sir E. Beatty sailed on Saturday for England to complete negotiations.
