OBITUARY
MR J. H. BERRY The death occurred yesterday at the age of 75 years of Mr J. H. Berry, a well-known resident of Masterton for over 40 years, The late Mr Berry, who had been in ill-health for some years, was a returned soldier, and was for many years a member of the old Masterton Volunteer Fire Brigade. He is survived by his widow and two daughters/ Mesdames J. C. Judd, Masterton and R. E. Graham, Wangaehu, to whom deep sympathy will be extended in their bereavement. The funeral will take place tomorrow, leaving the residence, 4 Grey Street, at 2 p.m. for the Masterton Cemetery. MRS J. ELERS. The many friends of Mr J. Elers, of Masterton', will learn with deep regret of the death of his wife, which occurred yesterday in the Masterton Hospital. The late Mrs Elers, who had only been ill for a short time, was 31 years of age. MR W. W. BIRD. The death occurred at the Greytown Hospital. yesterday afternoon of Mr William Wilson Bird, aged 88 years. The late Mr Bird was first employed by the late Mr Alexander Sutherland, Lyall Bay, Wellington, in 1864 and came to *“Ngaipu,” Hinakura, in 1875, where he worked for Mr Sutherland’s sons, William and David, now both dead, and, up to the time of the death of the sons of the late Mr David Sutherland, Alexander and Kenneth — altogether a period of 74 years in the employ of one family, claimed to be a New Zealand record.
