Mr B. R. O’Brien, a member of Ad- • miral R. Byrd’s second expedition to the Antarctic, now visiting Sydney from New Zealand, said that for various reasons any commercial exploitation of gold, coal and other minerpl deposits in the ice area was impossible. Mr O’Brien was referring to a proposal that the Federal Government should consult with the British and New Zealand Governments to see whether any purpose could be served by organising an expedition to the Antarctic.
