MR CHAMBERLAIN STATES HIS POSITION

RATIFICATION OF AGREEMENT DESIRED

WHEN THE SPANISH QUESTION HAS BEEN SETTLED

(British' Official Wireless.) RUGBY, July 7.

Asked in the House of Commons today whether he intended to fix a date by which the conditions preceding the ratification of the Anglo-Italian agreement must be in operation, Mr Chamberlain, the Prime Minister, replied: “The British Government has repeatedly stated that it is not in a position to give full effect to this agreement, which is not made subject to ratificaion, until it can regard the Spanish question as settled. “At the same time, as I stated on June 22, the Government is anxious to see the agreement brought into force at the earliest possible date consistent with fulfilment of the above-mentioned conditions.”
