ALLEGED BOOKMAKERS

THREE MASTERTON MEN CHARGED. . POLICE RAIDS YESTERDAY. With the Wellington races in progress yesterday afternoon, a police party, in charge of Detective-Sergeant W. Kane, raided several premises in Masterton and as a result three men, William Daniell Darvill, Frederick Richard Ball and Alexander Neish, later appeared in the Magistrate’s Court, before Mr H. E. Pither, J.P., facing charges under the Gaming Act. The accused were remanded until July 14. Bail was fixed at £lOO in each case. It was the first raid of its kind of any magnitude carried out in Masterton for some considerable time.
