CENTENARY CAMPAIGN

ST. MATTHEW’S PARISH. ACTIVITIES IN MASTERTON. A very largely attended and enthusiastic meeting of all parish organisations was held in St Matthew’s Parish Hall last night to make arrangements for the Church’s organisation of the centenary campaign. The Rev E. J. Rich announced that the actual campaign would be launched in Masterton by the Bishop of Wellington at a public meeting to be held in the Opera House on Monday, August 1. His Worship the Mayor would preside and speak. Much of the actual work of the campaign would be done by Bishop’s Helpers. Some 40 of those present enrolled themselves for that purpose and a representative committee from all parish organisations was set up. Mr A. Owen Jones was appointed honorary secretary and Mr G. J. Norris assistant secretary. The campaign has as its objective the building of a worthy Cathedral in Wellington and the establishment of the Bishop’s Fighting Fund. Following the public meeting on August 1 the Bishop’s Helpers will distribute to all parishioners a beautifully illustrated pamphlet giving full information about the campaign and its objectives. The large attendance, which exceeded all expectations, at the meeting last night and the enthusiasm and keenness displayed augurs well for the success of the campaign in this district.
