SIZE OF BATTLESHIPS
FIRST LORD TO MAKE STATEMENT RUGBY. June 29. Asked in the House of Commons today if the Government had reached any agreement with the United States on the size of battleships and heavy guns, Mr Chamberlain replied that he understood that the First Lord of the Admiralty, Sir Samuel Hoare, would make a statement at a very early date. LIMITS ANNOUNCED. POSITION OF DOMINIONS. (Recd This Day, 10.20 a.m.) LONDON, June 30. The First Lord of the Admiralty, Mr A. Duff-Cooper, has announced an Anglo-French-American agreement to build battleships to a maximum of 45,000 tons, with a sixteen-inch gun limit. He added that Australia and New Zealand did not participate in the discussions but had intimated their concurrence in the change.
