Mr H. S. Birch, of Kaituna, is spending a holiday in Wellington. Sir Henry Lindo Ferguson, Dunedin, has been reappointed a member of the Medical Council.

Mr and Mrs T. Husband, of Hunteyville, Rangitikei, returned home yesterday, after spending a few days in the Wairarapa. Mr George E. Wilson, Christchurch, has been appointed organist and choirmaster of the Beresford Street Congregational Church, Auckland, The Rt Hon M. J. Savage, Prime Minister, will leave Wellington for Auckland by the Limited express tonight. He will return to Wellington on Monday.
Captain J. P. Joyce, D.C.M., Regiment of Royal New Zealand Artillery, who has returned to the Dominion after undergoing a course of instruction at the School of Artillery, Sydney, has been appointed Staff Officer, Artillery, Army Headquarters, Wellington. Mr R. Illingworth, of Patea, who started training with the Wairarapa and Ruahine Aero Club on July 22 did his first solo flight yesterday. Mr Illingworth is a nephew of the late Captain George Hood, of Masterton. At last night’s meeting of the Wairarapa College Board of Governors, the resignation of Mr H. B. Massey, M.A., was accepted with regret, and reference was made to the valuable services he had rendered to the college during the nine years he was on the staff. Mr Massey has accepted a position on the staff of the Whangarei High School. Mr J. Glover was last night reelected chairman of the Wellington Hospital Board after the drawing of lots. There were two candidates, the other being Mr F. Castle. Mr Glover was nominated by Mrs M. Semple and Mrs M. Dowse, and Mr Castle by Mr G. Petherick and Mr W. J. Mason. The voting in the ballot was even, 9-9. The names of the candidates were then written on slips of paper and placed in a hat, from which the slip bearing the name of Mr Glover was drawn by a reporter. The funeral of the late Mrs J. Shearer, which took place on Wednesday, was largely attended. There was a beautiful display of floral tributes, amongst which were wreaths from the following:—Masterton Amateur Theatrical Society, Masterton Golf Club, Wharemoukou Golf Club, Messrs Hugo and Shearer, Ltd., and the staff of Messrs Hugo and Shearer, Ltd., and the Apex Investment Trust, Ltd. The Rev John Davie officiated, and the pallbearers were Messrs S. Divers, R. Page, S. Smith, V. Davis, W. Dickens and J. Jameson,
