ENJOYABLE BALL
SUCCESSFUL W.F.C.A. EVENT LAST NIGHT. BRIGHT SCENE IN MUNICIPAL HALL. In spite of the very unfavourable weather conditions the W.F.C.A. staff ball, held last night in the Municipal Hall, attracted a very large attendance of dancers from all parts of the district and proved thoroughly successful and enjoyable. Complete arrangements had been made by the committees, who are to be congratulated on the success achieved. The hall and supper room were artistically decorated by a committee consisting of Miss J. McKenzie, Messrs D. Costello, Rex Riley and H. Carle.
Over a period of years the ball , has established a reputation for being one of the most popular and enjoyable gatherings of the year and last night’s event added further lustre to fully uphold that fine record.
There was a charming scene when the following debutantes were presented to Mrs V. E. Donald: —Misses Amelia Chambers (Eketahuna), Sheila Kennedy, R. Perry, Olive Harding, Freda Butler, Beth Tilyard, Noline Wickens, Valda Russell (Masterton), Eva Lindop (Carterton).
The supper arrangements, which were a feature of the ball, were carried out by the following committee: Mesdames V. Taylor (in charge), Daubney, Phillips, Nicol, Wearne, Dixon, Hogg, Riley, Keisenberg and Aikman. Good work was also done by the men’s committee, Messrs D. Costello, G. Daubney, Hogg, D. Wellington, Rex Riley and R. Ward. Much of the success of the ball was due to the work and energy of the secretaries, Miss J. McMaster and Mr I. Twedell, who spared no pains to ensure the comfort and enjoyment of the dancers.
Excellent music was provided by the Blue River Dance Band and the extras were played by the W.F.C.A. staff orchestra. Mr W. L. Butler worked the spotlight for the novelty dances. Among those present were:—Mrs H. Keisenberg, gold satin; Miss J. Moriarty (Pahiatua), peach taffeta and sequins; Mrs T. O’Connor, French blue lace; Mrs L.
