“THE WOMEN IN WHITE”
LONDON’S SUMMER FASHION. White—White—White, Heim’s summer collection, shown in London recently, showed dozens of white frocks and emphasised their beauty by putting them on mannequins with lovely golden-brown skins, writes a London correspondenrt. White is undoubtedly your best bid if you’re sunburnt, they said in effect. They showed white linen frocks, white lace frocks, white jersey frocks, each representing a most successful compromise between tailored crispness and soft femininity. An exquisite heavy white linen evening frock had a plain tightly fitting skirt which broke at the back into a group of firmly pressed box pleats. A scroll of linen lace appliqued on either side matched the adorable little linen lace jacket, crisp and tailored, too. Lovely on a goldenhaired, golden-skinned mannequin. A white jersey evening frock was superlatively draped so that it looked more like sculptured marble than fabric; an effect which was enhanced by the snowy white garland of sequinned flowers which marked the smoothly rounded hip line; Or a white jersey frock, so slim and straight that the skirt had to be slit in front to allow for walking, looked whiter still when the little white jacket was taken off to show a navy blue chiffon blouse with soft, gathered sleeves. A filmy black net frock, mounted over white, was cross-barred with incredibly fine black and white lace so that it looked like a new and amusing plaid. And a white lace patterned organdie frock, as full skirted as a flower, had loops of coral pink ribbon draped found* the skirt. They underlined the charm of white afternoon frocks by doing them in white jersey, beautifully draped and beautifully simple. For Ascot, suggested a white broderie anglaise cut with groups of flat box pleats giving fulness from the waist at the back.
