COMING OF AGE PARTY

HAMUA CELEBRATIONS The J?amua Hall was the scene of a delightful coming-of-age party on Thursday night, given by Mr and Mrs W. J. Ryan in honour of their eldest daughter, Peggy. About 200 guests were present, including visitors from Palmerston North, Pahiatua, Eketahuna and Wellington. They were received by Mrs Ryan who wore a frock of black velvet. She was assisted by Miss Peggy Ryan, wearing pink lace and rainbow net frills. Interspersed with dancing were vocal items contributed by Mrs N. Izett and Mr D. Luke and a haka performed by Mr Gordon Smith. The M.C.’s for the evening were Messrs G. Biddle and R. Gordon. Novelty dances were won by Mr P. Humphrey and Miss J. White (Monte Carlo) and Mr L. Russell and Miss A. Russell (Lucky Spot). The supper arrangements were in the capable hands of Mesdames W. J. Ryan, Johansen, L. Russell, Misses M. Bailey and J .Ryan. A beautiful iced birthday cake, with its 21 candles, held pride of place, and after the candles had been extinguished by Miss Ryan, she then cut the cake, each guest receiving a piece. Musical honours were then accorded the guest of the evening, after which Mr R. Gordon suitably replied on her behalf, thanking all present for their gifts and good wishes.
