ACCOUNT WITH REBELS
ATTACKS ON BRITISH SHIPS IN SPAIN THREE VESSELS SUNK AND TEN SERIOUSLY DAMAGED TWENTY-THREE LIVES LOST (Recd This Day, 12.55 p.m.) LONDON, June 20. In the House of Commons, Mr R. A. Butler (Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs), said three British ships had been sunk and ten seriously damaged —43 sustaining lesser damage—in the course of attacks by aircraft since the beginning of civil war in Spain. Twen-ty-three lives had been, .lost in these attacks, at least thirteen being Britishers. Five protests had been addressed to General Franco. ANOTHER SHIP HIT. BOMBED WHILE AT ANCHOR. (Recd This Day, 1.40 p.m.) BARCELONA, June 21. The British steamer Thorpebay was hit by a bomb while she was anchored at Barcelona.
