WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Women’s Institute was held on Thursday, Miss Hanlon presiding over a good attendance of members. Miss Wolters, of Carterton, gave a very interesting demonstration of the making of a useful article out of a cheese crate, which was greatly appreciated by members. Miss Wolters was accorded a vote of thanks. The competition for plain- scones was won by Mrs D. Mclntosh, with Mrs S. Mclntosh second. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Spiier, Tilson and McDonald. KILLER DOG SHOT. The killer dog which had caused considerable destruction among sheep on the coastal stations during the past month was shot on Thursday last by an employee of the Whatarangi station. It is estimated that the damage caused to sheep during its depredations amounted to something like £l5O. SCHOOL CONTESTS. The annual home and home football and basketball matches between the Pirinoa and Kahutara schools will take place tomorrow on the local grounds. . PIRINOA. WINS GOLF MATCH. An inter-club match between the Pirinoa and Hinakura teams was played on the local links at the weekend. The weather was fine and the greens a trifle heavy owing to overnight rain. However, it improved considerably in the afternoon, due to the drying wind. The home team won both the singles and fourball matches, although the result was no indication of the closeness of most of the games. Afternoon tea was supplied by the local ladies. The results were as follow (Pirinoa players being mentioned first in each instance): — Singles: B. McMaster beat J. Pike; D. Tikao lost to Campbell Sievers; G. Munro beat G. McLeod; D. Jones beat G. Griffith; M. McLeod beat A. Charles; J. Riwai beat R. Cundy; R. McDougall beat L. Sievers; M. Herangi beat K. Sutherland; J. D. McDougall and C. Coffen all square; J. Carter beat W. Cameron; K. Waiwera beat A; Sutherland; H. Kershaw lost to A. Pike; M. Waiwera- beat R. Mitchell; W. Charters beat D. Morrison. Fourball: McMaster and Tikao beat Pike and Sievers; G. Munro and D. Jones lost to McLeod and Griffiths; McLeod and Riwai beat Charles and Cundy; McDougall and Herangi beat Sievers and Sutherland; McDougall and Carter beat Coffen and Cameron; Waiwera and Kershaw beat Sutherland and Pike; Waiwera and Charters beat Mitchell and Morrison. The local club will play a match against the Martinborough club on the local links on Saturday.
