The late Mrs Edward Joshua Riddiford was buried yesterday alongside her late husband in the family plot in the cemetery of St James’s Church of England, Lower Hutt. There were more than 300 persons, some from distant parts of New Zealand, in the congregation which assembled for the service conducted by the vicar, the Rev H. E. K. Fry, assisted by the Venerable Archdeacon Hansell, former vicar. There was one hymn, “Abide With Me.” Mrs Riddiford was known not to have rejected any call or appeal for a charitable cause, public or private, that was made to her, and the attendance of people of all sections of the community to pay their respects indicated the wide circle to whom she had endeared herself. The pallbearers were Mr George Gough, a brother of Mrs Vivian Riddiford (daughter-in-law), Mr Dudley Kettle (Napier), son-in-law, Mr Harold R. Cooper (Palmerston North), nephew. Messrs Anthony and John Riddiford. grandsons, and Mr J. E, F. Vogel, husband of one of Mrs Riddiford’s granddaughters.
