TOWNSWOMEN’S GUILD

AN ADDRESS ON ANTIQUES. Mrs W. H. Judd presided- at the monthly meeting of the Masterton Townswomen’s Guild, held in the new Y.M.C.A. Hall yesterday afternoon, there being an excellent attendance of members and visitors. The roll call “What the T.G. Means to Me” brought forth a good response. Regret was expressed at the resignation of Mrs W. T. Armstrong, a valued member of the committee, who had left Masterton. Prior to her departure for Auckland, Mrs Armstrong was farewelled at a social evening and presented with a token of esteem from the Guild members. Mrs Andrew had been appointed to the vacancy on the committee and to the position of Ode distributor.

Miss G. Gaudin sang two delightful solos, and Miss B. Coleman rendered t-wo elocutionary numbers, these items being-much appreciated. The speaker for the afternoon was Mr A. Clemas, F.I.C.S. (N.Z.), .whose subject, “Antiques,” proved to be of great interest to all present. In the short time at his disposal, Mr Clemas spoke on the collecting of pictures, furniture, china and books, and upon concluding he was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.

The display of curios from abroad, on the exhibition table, attracted much attention.

Buffet afternoon tea and the singing of the Ode brought the meeting to a close.
