MISS IRIS WILKINSON
FURTHER INQUIRIES BEING MADE. (Recd This Day, 1.55 p.m.) HANKOW, June 13. At the request of the New Zealand Government, the British Consulate is making contact with Dr Hankey, at Chengchow and with several other missions in Honan asking for information about Miss Iris Wilkinson (Robin Hyde).
Missionaries throughout Honan have decifled'.to remain at their posts, as evacuation to Hong'Kong or Shanghai would mean too long an absence from their work.
Miss Iris Wilkinson, who has won distinction as a novelist and a journalist, left Suchow recently on a donkey for the north-eastern frontier, which was then overrun by Japanese troops retreating from Langfeng. She was reported to be missing, although a cablegram from Shanghai on June 3 stated that she was staying with United States missionaries at Suchow.
