TEST BATTLE
MCCABE’S FINE InNINGS
AUSTRALIANS HOPING FOR DRAW.
IN SPIT OF ENGLISH CONFIDENCE.
By Telegraph—Press Association. Copyright. (Recd This Day, 11.55 a.m.) LONDON. June 13.
“England can win now,” says Fender. in a Fleet Street placard summarising the general feeling that victory is assured, but the Australian Associated Press says that, thanks to McCabe, who played the innings of a lifetime. Australia, while not yet out of danger, may be able to force a draw. McCabe's play was remarkable, not only for its spectacular boldness, but for the extraordinary acuteness with which he sized up the situation and kept piling up runs when the tail-enders came in. Even when, towards the close, he was obliged to hit almost with recklessness, he retained the beauty of his strokemaking. Bradman at his best could have done nothing greater. The Australian Associated Press says England’s fielding was better than that of the Australians.
