Fined for Drunkenness.

A labourer, Alexander Gordon Harrison. appeared in the Masterton Magistrate’s Court this morning on two charges of drunkenness. Harrison was arrested early yesterday afternoon, bailed out last night, and arrested again at 12.30 a.m. today. He was fined 10s on each charge. A first offender for drunkenness was fined 10s. Mr H. E. Pither, J.P., was on the bench. French Consulate. The Consulate of France for New Zealand has recently been transferred from Auckland to Wellington. The Consul for France, M. Andre Pouquet, has arrived from Auckland with Madame Pouquet, and they have taken up their residence in Wellington. The offices of the French Consulate are located in the Commercial Bank Building, Lambton Quay, and they are now open for business. A French consular agency has been established in Auckland, and is in the charge of Mr G. W. Hutchison, C.M.G., Legion of Honour.

Rotorua Trout Fishing.

The popularity of trout fishing in the lakes and streams of the Rotorua acclimatisation district is reflected in the returns for the issue of licences for the past two or three seasons, made available by the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon W. E. Parry. The Minister said that last season was one of the most successful for several years. The number of licences issued for the -1935-36 season was 9347. with a revenue of £4199. For the 1937-38 season the number of licences had, with some returns still to come, reached a total of 12,121, and the revenue £5292. It was estimated that a further 800 to the number of licences and £4OO to the revenue could be added to these figures. I
