KAITUNA-FERNRIDGE MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Kai-tuna-Fernridge Women’s Institute was held in the Kaituna Hall on Friday last, Miss Shaw presiding over a good attendance of members. During the afternoon Miss Barrer gave a very interesting talk on the St. John Ambulance Jubilee in London. She was accorded a very hearty vote of thanks. Two competitions were also held during the afternoon, the winners being Mrs L. Taylforth and Mrs J. Welsh respectively. The competitions for the month resulted as follows: — Seniors: Sausage rolls, Mrs Shaw 1, Mrs Keir 2; flowers, Mrs R. Welch 1, Mrs Stempa 2. Juniors: Cream puffs, Miss L. Shaw 1, Miss J. Taylforth 2. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Stempa and Gaynor. GATHERING AT PONGAROA. Mrs Wiltshire presided at the monthly meeting of the Pongaroa Women’s Institute on Friday. As the Drama Circle is in need of funds it was decided to hold a bridge evening to assist the finances. The motto for the month was “She who never makes a mistake never makes anything,” and roll call “My most embarrassing moment,” was very amusing. Competition results were: —Article from scraps of wool, Mrs Murphy 1 (child’s cardigan); Mrs Berry 2 (cushion); cultana cake from given recipe, Mrs Johnson 1; Mrs R. C. Scott 2. Mrs Ruskell was the winner of the points prize for the last six months. Mrs Eunson’s design for the banner was accepted. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Matthews, Murphy, Campbell and Smith. A most instructive lecture on “First Aid” was given by Mrs Mayman, and a travel talk on the “West Coast” by Miss B. Johnston. They were accorded a hearty vote of thanks. A memory competition was won by Miss M.'Meech.
