WEDDING

UNWIN—PERRY The wedding in which a good deal of interest was centred took place on the evening of June 2, at St Cuthbert’s Church, Eketahuna, of Joan Margaret, second daughter of Mr and Mrs A. J. Perry, “pakau,” Rongomai, to John Raymond, youngest son of Mr and Mrs H. E. Unwin, Hastings. The Rev L. Ives officiated, and the wedding music was played by Miss M. Wilson. The church was beautifully decorated by friends of the bride. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a slim-fitting gown of heavy pearl-tinted satin, made with high neckline, long fitting sleeves with high shoulders. • The gown was cut longer at the back to form a long oval train. Her veil of ivory tulle, richly embroidered, was held in place with a halo of tiny arum lilies and orange blossoms, with a spray at the neckline to match. She wore a double string of Richelieu pearls and stud earrings, the gift of the bridegroom and carried a bouquet of cream roses, pale pink and white carnations, with trails of asparagus fern, and a small evening purse embroidered with seed pearls and crystal.

The chief bridesmaid, Miss Betty Perry, wore a frock of purple chiffon velvet, cut on slim-fitting lines, with high neckline, short full sleeves and she wore gold accessories. The other bridesmaid, Miss Barbara Perry, wore amethyst silk net over taffeta, made in the same style as the chief bridesmaid’s frock, but with a full skirt dotted at the hem with posies of shaded violets. She also wore gold accessories. Both bridesmaids wore posies of shaded violets in their hair and at the neckline, and carried gold evening bags, the gifts of the bridegroom. They carried bouquets of violets, stylosis, purple stocks and trails of gold-tinted leaves. All bouquets were artistically made by Miss Ina Perry, Feilding, aunt of the bride.

The duties of best man were carried out by Mr Tom Lowes, Eketahuna, the groomsman being Mr Keith Perry.

After the ceremony a reception and dance was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall, where over 100 guests were received by the bride’s mother, assisted by the bridegroom’s mother, the former wearing black lacquered lace with pink spray and a black cocktail hat with shoulder-length veil. She carried a bouquet of pink carnations, roses and maidenhair fern. The bridegroom’s mother wore a smart frock of black and gold with hat to match, and carried a bouquet of bronze and gold chrysanthemums and autumn leaves. Guests were present from Wellington, Hastings. Feilding and surrounding districts.

Excellent music for dancing was provided by Mr J. Chote and Mr P. Wadley (both of Dannevirke), and songs were rendered by Miss M. Wilson and Mrs W. Gibson (Feilding). Later in the evening Mr and Mrs Unwin left for the north, the bride travelling in a smart tailored suit of almond green with a dark fox fur necklet. Her hat, shoes and gloves were of green, and she carried a green handbag.
