CARTERTON SALE
IMPROVED PRICES FOR COWS. Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., report: We held our weekly sale at Carterton yesterday when a fair yarding of stock was submitted to the usual attendance. Sheep met with a very dragging sale. Only a few springing cows were offered and these sold freely. ' Fat and stole cows also met with an improved market. Pigs were about the same in price as last week. Quotations:—
Sheep.—Fat lambs, 19s 6d to 23s 9d; B.F. lambs, 14s to 16s 9d; S.M. B.F. lambs, 7/9 to 11/6; fat ewes, to 18s. Cattle:—Cows just calved, to £7; spg Jer. heifers, £5 15s to £6; empty Jer. heifers, £2 7s 6d to £3 16s; fat cows, ’£4 10s to £6 10s; fat heifers, £4 10s to £5; fwd cows, £3 12s 6d to £4 2s 6d; store cows, £2 5s to £3 ss; cows and calves, £5 5s to £6; bulls, to £5. Pigs:—Weaners (good), 8s to 9s 6d; (medium), 6s 6d to 7s; (small), 5s to 6s; slips, 12s 6d to 15s 6d; store pigs, 17s to 19s; light porkers, 25s to 28s 6d; porkers, 34s to £2 Is; baconers, £2 7s 6d to £3 10s; choppers, to 355.
