PIPING CHAMPIONSHIP
MURDO McKENZIE’S SUCCESS.
Pipe-Major Murdo MacKenzie (Pipe-Major of the Wairarapa College Pipe Band) has won the New Zealand piping championship for the second year in succession. In winning the Piobaireachd at Dunedin at the competitions held from June 4 to June 7 he annexed the L.C.L. Shield, the Roderick Cameron gold medal and the Highland Society of London gold medal. In addition he won the South Island Championship Highland slow airs (Roderick MacKenzie Memorial Shield) and the Chas. Begg cup for most points in piping. Previously this season he has won the New Zealand championship marches (R. G. Laurie Shield) at Ngaruawahia and the following North Island champidnships: Marches at Turakina, slow airs at Hawera, Pibrochs at Ngaruawahia and Laments at Hunterville.
