PROSPECTING IN NORTH AUCKLAND. ENCOURAGING REPORTS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) DARGAVILLE, This Day. A statement made in Auckland yesterday by the Minister of Mines (the Hon. P. C. Webb) that the New Zealand Petroleum Company has taken out an oil prospecting licence over an area near Dargaville, refers to ( a large tract of country about six miles from Dargaville, near Tokatoka, fronting the deep water Northern Wairoa River, running south towards Maungaturoto. A local syndicate took out prospecting rights and options prior to the Government’s legislation. Reports received by the syndicate from experts and indications encourage a belief that oil will be found in the area covered by the options.
