GREYTOWN
AN OBJECT OF MUCH INTEREST. (“Times-Age” Special.) A large tractor-excavator en route to a Wairarapa road job attracted great attention when it was parked in Main Street, Greytown, yesterday. Its attendants were anticipating difficulty at various wooden open bridges on outback roads, it being too high for the clearances and more bulky that a. sheep crate. It was intended to unload and reload against convenient banks —a process expected to occupy about an hour. TRUST LANDS TRUST. The monthly meeting of the Greytown Trust Lands Trust was held last night. Mr D. P. Loasby (chairman) presided. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs H. Walden and F. Dennes. It was decided to purchase a fire proof sale. Advice was received from the Government Housing Department of its intention to take sections for building purposes, situated on the corners of Main Street, Humphrey Street and Papawai Road. GIRL GUIDES. At the annual meeting of the Greytown Girl Guides committee officers were elected for the ensuing year as follows: —President, Mrs Barnard; secretary, Mrs Stevens; committee, Mesdames Anker, Horton, Pope, Vile, Wiggins, Dennis, Svenson, Thompson. Greathead, Carter, Jury, Bayliss, Johnson, Barcham, Kempton. Captain Jury presented her report in connection with the year’s activities. A parents’ day will be held in the Guide Hall on June 25 and will take the form of an exhibition of badges, etc, stalls and afternoon tea. The president, Mrs Barnard will open proceedings at 2.30 o’clock. FAREWELL GATHERING. A pleasant function in the form of a social evening took place at the residence of Mrs' Webster, Main Street, last evening. The Mothers’ League Choir farewelled Mrs McMinn, one of the Choir members who has taken up her residence in Masterton. To showappreciation of Mrs McMinn’s services to the Choir, the members, through Mrs Webster, presented her with a beautiful crystal Rose Bowl and shoulder spray. Singing and competitions added to the enjoyment of the evening. Mesdames Ingley, McMinn and Webster contributed solos. Mrs H. G, Carter officiated at the piano. Mrs Kuell recited, much to the enjoyment of all. The competitions were won by Mesdames Ingley, York and McMinn. Mrs McMinn thanked members for the kindness shown to her, and for the gift. She said her thoughts would always -be with the members of the Greytown choir. Mrs Webster was accorded a vote of thanks for the use of the house for the gathering. ST. LUKE’S CHURCH. At the June meeting of St. Luke’s Ladies’ Guild two new members were welcomed. A vote of sympathy to Mrs Keedwell and family in their recent bereavement was expressed by members standing in silence. Mrs York was thanked for having made the beautiful wreath which was sent from the Guild. Mrs Sykes donated a large white tablecloth for use, and it was resolved to purchase another one. Members were reminded of the Jumble Sale on Friday next. Arrangements were made' in connection with the “Paddy’s Market” which is to take place on November 4. It was decided that after the Jumble Sale, no Shop-days be held this year. In July an “Apron Social” will be held. Members enjoyed afternoon tea provided by Miss Tate and Mrs Wood who were thanked for their hospitality.
