RIVER IMPROVEMENTS
COST TO THE BOROUGH. The total expenditure on wages on the Waipoua River improvement work up to May 28 was £5196 9s Id, observed the Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, last night. Of that amount a sum of £4749 2s 6d was received by way of Government subsidy, leaving £447 6s 7d paid by the borough. The' total cost to the borough to date was £1999 14s 9d. The engineer, Mr Jordan added, was quite satisfied with the rate of progress of the work and if Mr Semple came to Masterton Mr Jordan said he hoped he would take the opportunity of inspecting the work and see what was becoming of his money.
