TWO DEATHS

INJURED GUARD AND WOUNDED CONVICT THE ATTEMPT TO ESCAPE FROM ALCATRAZ SAN FRANCISCO, May 25. The prison guard who was injured when three convicts made an unsuccessful attempt to escape from Alcatraz prison on Monday has died. One of the two convicts who was wounded has also died. The two sur-vivors will probably be charged with murder, the penalty for which is death in the Californian lethal chamber. Alcatraz prison is situated on an island in the middle of San Francisco Bay. Swift currents which continually sweep in from the narrow Golden Gate entrance to the bay make it almost impossible for convicts to swim to the shore. There is no case on record of a successful escape having been made. Al Capone, the famous Chicago gangster, is one of the inmates of Alcatraz.
