DEFENCE SUPPLIES
PROPOSAL DEFEATED IN LORDS. CREATION OF MINISTRY NOT FAVOURED. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, May 25. A proposal for the establishment of a Ministry of Supply was debated in the House of Lords. A motion that it was essential in the interests of national security that a Ministry of Supply for the three Defence Services should be established forthwith was defeated by 54 votes to 12. Lord Zetland, replying for the Government, announced that orders for all aeroplanes required to fulfil the accelerated air defence programme had been given, and that reserves of essential ravz materials had been secured. He declared that the Government was of opinion that a change of organisation as suggested in the motion would retard production.
