OBITUARY
MR HUGH MORISON, OF GREYTOWN.
The many friends of Mr Hugh Morison, of Morison’s Bush, Greytown, will regret to hear of his death, which occurred last night at his residence “Glen Morven.” The late Mr Morison, who was 77 years of age, had been in poor health for some time. By his death the Wairarapa has lost one of its most highly respected and esteemed residents. Born at Glen Morven, the son of pioneer settlers of the district, the late Mr Morison had resided all his life in the Wairarapa. For many years he took a great interest in all district affairs. During the Great War he was untiring in his efforts to raise funds for patriotic purposes and his example in this respect reflected throughout the whole community. He was a Past Master of the Greytown Masonic Lodge and a few years ago was granted life membership by the Grand Lodge of New Zealand. He was also a life member of the South Wairarapa Working Men’s Club. Mr Morison occupied the presidential chair of the Wairarapa and East Coast P. and A. Society for several years and was also a life member of that body. In sporting circles he was .very popular, being a steward of the Wairarapa Racing Club and of the Wairarapa Trotting Club for many years. He was also greatly interested in school affairs, his length of service as chairman of the Kaitara (Morison's Bush) school committee being a record for the Wellington district. The late Mi - Morison is survived by a widow and family of three daughters and four sons. The members of the family are: Mesdames P. Cooper (Gladstone) and Anderson (Ngaturi), Miss Reta Morison (Greytown), and Messrs Duncan (Pahiatua), Hugh (Makuri), James and John Morison (Grey town).
