KOPUARANGA
WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Kopuaranga Women’s Institute was held in the hall on Thursday, Mrs S. J. Clarke presiding over a good attendance of members and visitors from the Mauriceville Institute. A debate, “Should Women Enter Parliament,” took place during the afternoon, Kopuaranga members, Mrs R. Miller, Miss M. Wright and‘Mrs Jarrett, taking the affirmative and the Mauriceville members, Mesdames H. Freeman, I. D. Cameron, and A. Forsberg, taking the negative. A vote declared Kopuaranga to be the winners. Miss M. Kane gave a talk on matters pertaining to successful debating. Mrs Forsberg gave a demonstration on making wool mops. The “Roll Call” for the afternoon was jam-making hints. Competition results were as follows: —Sponge: Mrs Hewitt 1, Miss L. Fenemor 2, Mts Kenny 3. Best bloom: Mrs Miller 1, Mrs Hewitt 2, Mrs Reside 3. Apple jelly: Mrs Reside 1, Mrs Jarrett 2, Mrs E. C. Cottle 3. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames S. J. Clarke, W. Reside and Miss E. McKenzie. A report on the Bush-Wairarapa Council meeting was given by Mrs Donald. z ’ A hearty vote of thanks was extended to the visitors and the meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
