GAMING CHARGES

PROSECUTIONS IN TAIHAPE. By Telegraph—Press Association. TAIHAPE, May 13. Following a police raid conducted by Detective J. Murray (Wanganui) and members of the Taihape and Mangaweka police force, Alan Harcourt Smith and Norman Phillip Sisson were each charged in the Magistrate’s Court, Taihape, yesterday afternoon with carrying on the business of bookmaking. John Joseph Ryan faced a charge of keeping a common gaming house at Taihape and Thomas Lucas was charged with assisting in conducting the business of a common gaming house. On the application of the police each defendant was remanded to appear before a magistrate on June 2. Bail was allowed each defendant in his own surety of £5O.
