TRESPASSERS FINED
SHORT CUT ACROSS RAILWAY LINES. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, This Day. Thirteen men, charged with trespassing on the railway lines between Waterloo Quay and Thorndon Quay, were dealt with in the Magistrate’s Court, Wellington, yesterday by Mr J. H. Luxford, S.M. Sub-Inspector A, D. McLean, who prosecuted, said men trespassing on the lines in this vicinity had been an annoyance to railway officials for some time past. Of the 13 men charged, six appeared in the court and all pleaded guilty. The explanation given in each case was that they were taking a “short cut.; “There have been fatalities in this particular area in the past,” said SubInspector McLean, “and these men have been prosecuted with the view that action against them may prove a deterrent for others.”
The six men who appeared were fined 5s and the other seven, who were charged but made no appearance, were fined 5s and costs.
