HUNDRED SKULLS

GRIM FIND IN SYDNEY STORE. SYDNEY, May 8. A grim discovery made in a Grafton bond store, Kent Street, in the city to-day, when a zinc-lined case containing 100 human skulls was uncovered by the manager and employees during a clean-up of the store. The case had lain in store over 30 years, awaiting a claimant, but no record of its ownership or method of arrival is traceable. All the skulls, which are believed to be those of Pacific islanders, are in a good state of preservation, especially the teeth, which in all cases are nearly perfect. CLAIMED BY OWNER. MATERIAL FOR SCIENTIFIC STUDY. (Recd This Day, 10 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Dr J. Frederick Watson, of Canberra, has claimed ownership of the hundred skulls. Fie believes that they are New Guinea and Polynesian skulls intended for him when he was studying medicine at the university and collecting skulls. His father and uncle owned the store in which they were found.
