PLUNKET SOCIETY

BEQUESTS OF SIR TRUBY

CELEBRATION OF FOUNDER’S DAY. CAMPAIGN FOR INCREASED MEMBERSHIP. WELLINGTON, This Day. Miss Mary King announced at a meeting of the Wellington branch of the Plunket Society yesterday, where she was the guest of honour, that under the terms of Sir Truby King’s will, his home at Melrose would be handed over to the Wellington branch. It would be at the disposal of the society as soon as legal formalities had been complied with. The question of how it is to be used will be discussed later, but it was the expressed wish of Sir Truby King that it should be used chiefly for the benefit of mothers.

The meeting decided to act on the Dunedin suggestion to make May 14 Founder’s Day, but the Wellington celebration this year will be on Friday next, May 14 being a Saturday. A campaign for increased membership commences with a broadcast by Lady Galway from Government House, Auckland tonight. The Dominion president, Mrs James Begg, broadcasts from Dunedin on'Monday night. There will be a broadcast from Wellington on Tuesday night and from Christchurch on Thursday, and by the president of the Auckland society from Auckland next Saturday. These broadcasts will all be from the national stations.
