OFFENDING MOTORISTS

WELLINGTON SALESMAN FINED (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A charge of being intoxicated while in charge of a motor-car in John Street on Thursday night was admitted by Harry Douglas Wallace HallKenny, salesman, aged 46, in the Magistrates’ Court, Wellington, yesterday. He was convicted by Mr W. F. Stillwell, S.M., and fined £l5 and costs, in default three months’ imprisonment. His licence was cancelled and he was disqualified from obtaining another for 12 months. Sub-Inspector A. D. McLean said accused was arrested when sitting in the car about 10 p.m., but was not seen by the police actually driving.

AN AUCKLAND SENTENCE AUCKLAND, May 6. “If these offenes continue the term of imprisonment will have to be lengthened,” said Mr C. R. Orr--1 Walker, S.M., in the Magistrates' Court when Albert Ainsworth, aged 50, carrier, was charged with being in a state of intoxication while in charge of a motor-truck on the Great North Road on Thursday. He entered a plea of guilty. “I have given careful and sympathetic consideration to what accused's counsel has said,” the magistrate said. “However, the interests of the public outweight those of the individual, and I must sentence him to imprisonment.” Accused was sentenced to two weeks' imprisonment and his licence was cancelled for two years.
