ENJOYABLE GATHERING

MR AND MRS D. L. TAVERNER ENTERTAINED PRESENTATION TO MAYOR (“Times-Age” Special) A most enjoyable gathering took place at the Marquis Hotel, Carterton, last night when members of the Borough Council and the Town Clerk entertained the Mayor, Mr D. L. Taverner, and Mrs Taverner at dinner in honour of their recent marriage. The health of the Mayor- and Mayoress was proposed by the Deputy-Mayor. Mr W. M. Sorenson, who welcomed Mrs Taverner in her official capacity as Mayoress. Prior to the commencement of business at the monthly meeting of the Council, Mr Sorenson presented Mr Taverner with a beautiful silver entree dish and servers on behalf of councillors and the Town Clerk. Mr Sorensen mentioned that it was the first time for 15 years that Carterton had had a Mayoress, and he wished Mr and Mrs Taverner all the best of health and happiness.
