In the Bournemouth hard court tennis championships women’s singles, first round, Miss Valentine Brown beat Mrs Hopman, 7/5 4/6, 6/0; Mrs Luxton beat Miss Wilson, 6/4, 6/4; Miss T. Coyne (Australia) beat Miss Goss (Britain), 9/7, 6/3. Miss Coyne was slow to find the touch trailing 3/5 in the first set. She then went in to volley and quickly wore down her opponent. In the second round, Miss E. H. Harvey (Britain) beat Miss D. Stevenson (Australia), 6/1, 6/1. In the men’s singles, first round, M. G. Weston (Australia) beat MacPherson (Britain), 7/5, 6/0, 6/0; Malfroy (New Zealand) beat R. W. Higgin (Britain), 7/5, 6/3. 6/3. BRITAINS’ DAVIS CUP TEAM. LONDON, April 25. The Britain Davis Cup team against Rumania will be: D. W. Butler, C. M. Jones, R. A. Shayes and F. H. D. Wilde.
