CYCLING

WAIRARAPA CLUB. NOTES ON SATURDAY’S RACE. (By “Green and Black.”) Wet weather prevailed for the third race of the Wairarapa Cycling Club on Saturday, making the conditions unpleasant for the 13 riders, who all completed the 16-mile course to Te Whiti and back. J. Brader, the winner, is very fit at present and will be hard to beat. R. Copp, who filled second place, put up a fine performance as he cycled by himself for 14 miles and was only beaten by half a length. M. Graham again rode a good race and finished a close third.

R. Wollett, a new rider to Masterton, shows good promise as he gained second fastest time. He should soon be on the scratch mark. B. Harman, who was third in the two previous weeks, dropped back to fifth this week. Lack of training is beginning to tell. B. Dooling again rode well and more will be heard of him during the season.

J. McAliece has a great future before him as he rides very well indeed. S. Brannigan displayed his best form this season and with more luck would have been up with the placed men. E. Lefort is a game little rider. Long distances should suit him better. Asplit, a new rider, found the pace too hot and received C. I. Dykes’ "Wooden Spoon.’’ However, keep training; there will doubtless be better luck ahead.

M. Dooling was below form this week caused by his fall last week. Next Saturday should see him fit again.

L. Clark, who gained the fastest time, put up a fine performance to cover the 1G miles in 37.255ec5. Well done Len!

C. Dykes rode well for third fastest time, and is improving with every race. Longer distances should see him up with the placed men. All riders making the trip to Wellington on May 7 must be registered members and if possible wear club colours —green jerseys and black shorts.
