FINAL WOOL SALE
VALUES AT WELLINGTON DROP ON MARCH RATES. COMPETITION FAIRLY KEEN. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The 1937-38 series of wool sales closed today with the Wellington sale. An offering of 18,200 bales was submitted to a good bench of buyers, who were representative of all the important manufacturing countries. Competition was keen and the value of the wool, taking its description and character into account, was little lower than in March. Buyers generally appeared to be subject to restricted limits, although they showed eagerness to get the wool they required. Up to 11 o’clock, the market was down on rates ruling on March 22 by a farthing to a halfpenny a pound. For finer wools, values were about on a level with March, and generally the market was on a par with that of the Dunedin sale. Early in the sale, good crossbreds made from 9Jd to IOJd and fine crossbred, containing seed, lOd to IOJd, but if with no seed it commanded lid up to 12d for fine quality. For a few attractive lines of such fine wools, 12d to 12jd was paid. Lambs’ wool was in good demand, but a fair amount of seed was showing in many of the lots. The price for lambs’ wool was between 9jd and 10jd for good lines, and 8d to 9d for others. Bellies and pieces commanded strong competition at 7d to BJd. Crutchings sold at 6Jd to BJd and locks at 5d to 6d.
A line of thirteen bales of Rylands brought HJd.
